Macmame Games

Once you have MacMAME (the Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator software for Macintosh operating systems) installed on your computer, you will likely be ready to find some games to play. The games that are played through MacMAME are known as ROMs. These ROMs contain the actual Read-Only Memory code from the original game chips.

Users who are new to the world of MAME may wonder whether or not it is necessary to find ROMs specifically geared toward the Macintosh OS. Fortunately, the answer to this question is “no.” Much like MP3s or JPG graphic files, the ROMs themselves can be read by emulators on any operating system.

In fact, this is the job of the various MAMEs on different systems: to translate the ROM code into a usable form for a given operating system. Therefore, just like MacMAME will translate the original game ROM into a format that is usable by the Mac, a Windows-based MAME like MAME32 will translate the same exact ROM into a file that can be used on that operating system. The ROM itself is the same exact code; it is the emulator that changes.

Loading MacMAME Games

In order to play an arcade game ROM on your Macintosh, then, it is necessary to have MacMAME (or a similar emulator) installed on your computer. The games themselves can be played through the emulator’s interface, just as if you were in an actual arcade. Even the coin-operated nature of the games remains the same; instead of inserting quarters, …

blanket chest and seat

Blanket chests are an extremely useful and
enjoyable item to have in a bedroom. They can double as a bench as well
as a chest. The seat can be made with sides and a back, so that a cushion
will fit without sliding off. This chest features dovetail joints, which
are used to put the chest together, as well as for a decorative feature.
You can cut these dovetails using a band or circular saw, just be careful
when laying out the lines.

The tail members, on both the front and
back can be cut on the band saw. The pin members which are cut on the ends
of the chest can be done using the circular saw, if you set the crosscutting
fence at an angle of 19 degrees. Place the ends in a vertical position
against the crosscutting fence, in order to make the cuts. It is best to
make the pin members first. Then you can scribe lines for the tail members
and use the end to be joined to it as a pattern. Then you will be ensured
a perfect joint.

A molding should be cut on the strip which
will be fastened to the lid, and to the upper edges of the members, which
will make the feet. The feet then should be joined with a miter at the
front. At the back they are nailed to a 2 inch strip, fitted between the
two, and to the chest. Don’t forget to nail the …

Download Classic Games

Old Classic Games for Android - APK Download

It is important to be careful when downloading classic video games onto your computer. There are many products available on the Internet that allow a user to recreate the action of an old Atari or arcade game on his or her computer. Not all of these methods, however, are legal and legitimate.

The Legalities of Downloading Classic Games

Cyberspace has always been a heavily disputed area in terms of intellectual property. For example, in recent years, the music industry has seen quite a shake-up, thanks to file-sharing systems on which a vast number of songs have been swapped without the songwriters earning any royalties. Similarly, the developers of video games are entitled to the earnings produced from the sales of their games.

While it is true that there are clones and bootleg copies of classic arcade games available on the Internet, there are several hazards and pitfalls for the user in downloading these versions. First of all, in some cases, the games are just plain illegal to download. In other cases, clones of original games can infringe on the copyrights of the original game, preventing the true developer from earning a living.

Oftentimes, the clones can be poorly developed, inaccurate and buggy. Wouldn’t you rather spend a quarter or so to download an authentic version of a game that you know will be identical to the one you played on your home system years ago? Thankfully, there are legitimate, legal places to download classic games for your home computer. The …

Download Lunar Lander

Lunar Lander is, in theory, a remarkably simple game. The object? You have to navigate your ship, the Eagle, safely onto the surface of the moon. In order to do this successfully, you must manipulate the ship with just the right amount of thrust and velocity, and land at an appropriate spot so as not to crash your ship.

This 1979 game by Atari is something of a classic for owners of home gaming systems like the Atari 2600. For many, Lunar Lander was one of the first video games they ever owned. Now, thanks to software systems like MAME, the games are playable once more–this time on your home computer system.

Downloading Lunar Lander for Use with MAME

MAME is an acronym for Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator. It is a piece of software that emulates various hardware gaming machines, like the Atari 2600. You can find MAME software for many operating systems, like Windows (MAME32), Macintosh OS (MacMAME), Linux (XMAME) and others.

MAME essentially serves as a host for various game ROM codes. If you wanted to play Lunar Lander, for instance, you could download the appropriate MAME software for your computer (a free download, incidentally). Once that is installed, you can download the ROM for Lunar Lander, which you can license for a remarkably small fee. The licensing fee ensures that you are using the trademarked characters and game sounds legally, and that the creators and distributors of the game get their due.…

Edible Flowers

You can have it all and eat it too in the backyard garden. Are you tired of the same old potatoes, tomatoes, and beans routine? Do you want to replace the old waltz with a new minuet that satisfies the esthetic soul as well as the cravings of the flesh?

You can have both with edible flowers. A garden that looks beautiful, supplies flowers for cutting and drying, as well as unusual tastes and textures to eat.

Start in Spring with the Lovely Violets. Sugar crystalized violets are the creme de la creme of fancy food trimmings. For truly precious cooks, and wildflower fanatics, there are white, pink, bicolor, and even yellow violets. One of my most prized, though fragile and fleeting, is a freckled violet, white with purple dots, given to me by a very old man many years ago.

Violets, as with most edible flowers, can be made into syrup, used to flavor sugar or butter or vinegar, used whole in jelly, or even made into violet water to moisten poultry stuffing. Very Victorian. The fresh flowers displayed in a narrow vase or as a nosegay surrounded with white lace and green heart shaped leaves are the personification of eternal spring and beauty and youth.

Then Consider Lilacs. Although the good book says, “As ye shall sow, so shall ye reap,” you can reap plenty without lifting a finger. Lilacs, for instance, can be made into a old fashioned confection called Crystals of Lilac, in …

Rent X Box Games

Rent X Box games and you’ll be able to try out all the titles you’ve read about without having to pay $50 each just to take them home. The exchange-for-same-item-only policy on video games at most retail outlets has resulted in mighty blows to many a gamer’s wallet. The ability to rent X Box games for just a few dollars can make a world of difference in the amount and types of games you play.

If you’re a fan of sports video games, maybe you’ve been reluctant to dip a toe into the world of action video games. At the high buy-in rate, this comes as little surprise. When you rent games, however, you can afford to take the risk, and dive into games of all genres, knowing that the downside is essentially nonexistent.

Rent X Box Games from the Right Source

Renting from a video store does carry some possible downside, so make an informed choice. If you pay on a per rental basis, you might still resent the six bucks wasted on a lame title. Plus, the chance of a wasted trip always looms large, as the best games seem never to be in stock. Almost every gamer has had an uninformed video clerk admit that he lost a game and that the store won’t get another one.

Renting online solves most, if not all, of these problems. You can find packages that allow you to pay one fee per month for unlimited games. The price is usually …

The Antique Look

Creating an “Old Looking Finish”

Here are a few suggestions on how to give an antique look to an inexpensive piece of unfinished furniture.

This is a fun project that involves “beating up” a piece of furniture. You’ll need a chain, an ice pick and a variety of stains and paints to create an “old” looking finish.

The ice pick is used to simulate worm holes or insect damage. The chain is used to create years of wear and tear which is visible on the finish of many antiques. The stains and paints are used to create a slightly multi-colored finish. By applying different coats of paint, the “damage” you inflict on the furniture allows the different colors to show through one another.

But what are these chains and the ice pick for?

Some standard items are a pine dresser, some paint and some brushes.

Take a brand new pine dresser, like you can pick up at any unfinished furniture store. What you’re going to do is give it a time-worn look. You’re going to use the chains and ice picks to “help it along.” Think about it, a 50 or 100 year old piece of furniture sees a lot of abuse. It’s probably seen a few different houses, kids, grandkids and maybe even great grandkids. And who knows how many coats of paint.

You’re going to actually hit the dresser with the chains! This is going to be fun!

But before you start to “age” the wood, …
